Carving Pumpkins

As a family, we have always had such a great time carving pumpkins together.  Jocelyn loves to dig into the pumpkin, clean it out and pick a design.  Then there is Eli… he hates putting his hand inside the pumpkin.  Last year, he stuck his hand inside the pumpkin and gagged causing him to throw up.  He has a terrible gag reflex.  He loves to pick out the design and help cut it out.  Audrey wasn’t so sure about it.  Last year, she was just turning 1, so she just basically sat and watched.  I cut her pumpkin open and she would dig the inside out with a spoon.  But when we started to clean out the big pumpkin, she loved it!

She was so proud of her very own pumpkin!

She helped me decide what shapes to do the eyes and nose.

I told her that I wanted to take a picture of her and her pumpkin, so grabbed her pumpkin and posed for me.  She loves to get her picture taken!

This is one of the finished products!  Brian did an awesome job!

Even if you aren’t Iowa State fans… you’ll think it is cool!!

And here are the kids pumpkins.  Audrey’s is the little one.

Jocelyn’s is the spider web and Eli’s is the skull and crossbones.

“I am not wearing this…”

So, those of you that know Eli well. know that he says the funniest things ever.  And he isn’t meaning to say things that are funny, he just says things that crack everyone around him up.  So here is an example…

Eli had his fall party at school Wednesday.  So I told him to go upstairs and get his costume on.  He starts coming down the stairs saying “I AM NOT WEARING THIS … PEOPLE WILL LAUGH AT ME!” He stops on the steps, looks at me and says “Spiderman DOES NOT have boobs!”  As he is pointing to the MUSCLES that spiderman has.  I about fell on the floor laughing at him and he got embarrassed trying to figure out what he had said that made me crack up the way I did.  I explained to him that they were his muscles.  And he was fine after that!  here is a pic of Eli with his 2 buddies from preschool.  Sometime I will sit down to post all of Eli’s funny sayings!

Eli’s last soccer practice!

Eli had his last soccer practice on Tuesday night.  He got a medal and is very proud of it.  He is bummed that soccer is over, but we are looking for another soccer program.

Eli’s field trip to the pumpkin patch!

Eli had a field trip to the pumpkin patch on Monday.  It was supposed to be last Thursday, but it was raining so too muddy!  Monday was freezing cold.  I think the windchill was in the 30’s!  We survived! though and the kids had a great time!!

When Eli was playing in hay maze, Audrey grabbed my hand and said “cow”.  For those of you that don’t know… Audrey isn’t a big talker.  She has a speech therapist that works with her every other week to help her form more words.  So when she pointed and said cow, I was very proud of her.  Her and I walked over to the cow and it was eating a pumpkin.  We stood there and watched the cow and Audrey said” Cow Eat!”

Yeah Audrey!!

The big weekend… Uncle Mark’s Wedding!

Mark and Deb’s wedding was Saturday.  Everything went great. I will get some pics posted soon.  I know everyone is anxious to see them.  Stay tuned!!

Grandpa and Audrey!

I couldn’t resist taking these pictures!  Audrey and grandpa doing puzzles together!

Aren’t these pictures great!

A few pics of things over the past week…

Jocelyn cheering on Saturday the 18th!

Jocelyn was able to be a flier at this game.  She is usually a base and was excited to get to be on top!  She did a really good job!

Me and the kids making pizzas for dinner!  The kids love to make their own dinner… especially if it something they actually like!

Audrey’s first trip to the ER!

Oh, yes… she has the other children beat at the age of their first ER visit.  Monday morning, Audrey was sitting at the kitchen table, well  not sitting, she insists on standing on her chair.  And we all repeatedly tell her to sit down so she doesn’t fall. ( We have a high top kitchen table, so the chairs a quite a bit higher off the ground.)  We had already taken Jocelyn to school.  Audrey, Eli and I were sitting at the table finishing breakfast and reading the paper, when Audrey fell off the chair.  Her head hit the hard wood floor… I really thought she was going to be knocked out.  I jumped out my chair and picked her up.  The cry where you have to blow in their face to get them to breathe.  I sat with her, but felt no bump.  I called my friend, Kelly, who is a nurse to ask what I need to watch for.  She named several things and one of them was vomiting.  If she vomits, I would have to take her to the dr.  Low and behold, I get Eli in the car, almost to preschool and Audrey starts to vomit.  Not just a little… 3-5 minutes of projectile vomiting.  I called Kelly and she said that she would meet me at the hospital.  I called Brian and he was on his way too.  By this time, I was in front of Eli’s preschool, so I ran him to the door where one of my friends took him to his class.  I rushed to the hospital.  I turned around frequently and kept calling Audrey’s name.  She was out of it.  I was afraid that she was going to fall asleep.  Got to the ER.  I opened the van door and attempted to get her cleaned up a little.  I took off her shirt and wrapped her in my jacket.  I carried her in.  Checked us in.  Got her vitals, they were good.  They got us back to a room where we waited for the doctor.  By the time she came in, Audrey was up moving around.  Back to her “normal” self.  So I felt much better.  The doctor checker her out, talked to us and told us that she would reccommend doing a CT scan.  She told us that it was up to us.  Brian and I looked at each other and we both shook our heads yes.  That would be more reassurance that everything was fine.  So we walked with her to radiology.  Brian and I both put on those big heavy jackets.  We laid Audrey up on the table and they covered her with the blanket (heavy… same material as the jackets).  They told me to hold her head still, only using my fingers under her chin.  And they told Brian to put his hands over her feet.  At first, she was a little squirmy, but smart daddy told her to look at the choo choo train. (For those of you that haven’t seen a CT machine, it spins around your body and could look like a train).  She was so still.  The tech said that he wished every toddler was like her! We went back to her room and waited and waited and waited.  In the meantime, Brian left to get Eli from preschol.  The dr came in and said everything looked normal.  THANK GOD!  Our prayers were answered!  Although, while we were there, we did find out that Audrey has an ear infection.  Who knew!!

We left and met Brian and Eli at home.  Eli was very concerned.  Poor kid, he probably had no idea what was going on.  He ran up to Audrey and gave her a hug.  Audrey was fine the rest of the day.  She gave us a big scare.  Thankfully, nothing serious!

At dinner Monday night, guess who still wouldn’t sit down in her chair!!  I think I am going to have to tie her down!!

Starting to potty train??

Just as I am thinking that Audrey is growing up too fast, she proves the point even more!  Saturday morning Brian took Audrey upstairs to change her diaper and her put her on the toilet. ( We usually put her on the toilet when we change her diaper just to get her used to it.)  I have never had any luick to get her to go, leave it to daddy to get her to go!  She sat on the potty and Brian read her a book.  About half way through the book, she grabbed her back, and then Brian heard a “plopping” noise. ( I know that sounds gross, but how else do you describe it!)  And she had pooped on the potty.  She yelled “Mommy” and wanted me to come up to see it.  Sure enough, she pooped in the potty!  What a big girl!

And also, yesterday she peed on the potty!  Pulled her pants down, took her diaper off and got herself on the toilet!  All I can say is WOW!!

BEWARE!! Don’t mix…

Grocery shopping and 3 kids!  SInce Jocelyn and Eli are out of school today, they went grocery shopping with Audrey and I.  Audrey and I usually grocery shop together on one of the mornings when the other 2 are both at school.  Occassionally, I take Eli along with us.  But Audrey is hard enough at this age… she doesn’t want in the cart, but she doesn’t want out either.  So this morning I had Eli’s parent teacher conference (which was great!) and then I decided to take them to the store.  I didn’t need too many groceries and I figured it would be fine.  I WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO WRONG!!

Audrey didn’t want in the cart of course.  So I would put her down to walk and she usually runs a little ways and then waits for me.  But today, Eli thought it would be funny to chase her!  I think everyone in Walmart today knew that 2 of kids names were Audrey and Eli.  And then Jocelyn decides that this would be a great time to try and get mom to buy some extra yummy food… treats and snacks that I usually don’t buy.  So I thinik the only words I used this morning at the store were:  Audrey, NO, Eli, Stop running, Jocelyn, NO, stay with me, and No again!  What a wonderul bonding experience we all had!  So sad!  And not to mention, I think I spent at least double of what I should of and would of it I would of only had one of the kids!!  And just to put a cherry on top of the experience- it was pouring down rain when we had to walk out to the car!

I think I am ready for a nap today!!
